PdfParse vs Amazon Textract

Amazon Textract is an OCR API that returns each page as a graph of blocks. PdfParse returns the fields you asked for as rows in your own tables, with email intake, splitting, routing, and review already built around it.

20 free pages. No credit card required.

Choose PdfParse when

  • You want named fields in a table, not a block graph to post-process.
  • People without AWS access need to set up and review extraction.
  • You need email intake, splitting, and review without building them.
  • Your documents vary by vendor, and you don't want to train adapters.

Amazon Textract may fit when

  • You need raw OCR text at very high volume and very low cost.
  • Your stack lives in AWS, and you have engineers to build around it.
  • You process US mortgage packets that AnalyzeLending already covers.

The short version

The rows you asked for, with the workflow built in.

01

You get the fields you defined

Textract returns PAGE, LINE, WORD, TABLE, and KEY_VALUE_SET blocks linked by relationships, so turning them into rows means writing code. Queries return question–answer pairs, and AnalyzeExpense maps to a fixed AWS field set. In PdfParse, you define a table once and every document becomes a row with those columns.

02

The workflow already exists

Textract has no email intake, and its splitting and classification covers mortgage documents only, through AnalyzeLending. Its human review integration, Amazon A2I, is closed to new customers. PdfParse includes inboxes, splitters, routing, and a review queue on every plan.

03

Results stay where you can use them

Asynchronous Textract results are kept for 7 days unless you write them to your own S3 bucket, and completion arrives through SNS. PdfParse stores rows in tables you can query, export as CSV or JSON, or download as SQLite, and sends signed webhooks.

04

Anyone on the team can run it

Textract runs through API calls inside an AWS account, with IAM roles and S3. PdfParse has a dashboard for fields, uploads, and review, plus a REST API, TypeScript SDK, and MCP server for automation.

Cheaper OCR. Pricier pipeline.

Textract's plain-text OCR is very cheap, but it is only OCR. Storage, intake, review, and the code that turns blocks into rows are yours to build and run. Once you need tables, forms, and queries, PdfParse Pro costs less per page and includes the workflow.
