PdfParse vs LlamaParse

LlamaParse and LlamaExtract turn documents into markdown and schema-shaped JSON for LLM apps. PdfParse turns business PDFs into reviewed rows in your own tables, with the intake and review workflow around them.

20 free pages. No credit card required.

Choose PdfParse when

  • You want rows in tables, not JSON you still have to load somewhere.
  • Documents arrive by email and need splitting, routing, and review.
  • You want one price per page instead of credits per tier.
  • Operations staff, not just developers, will run the workflow.

LlamaParse may fit when

  • You're building a RAG pipeline and want LLM-ready markdown.
  • You parse many file types beyond PDFs, like slides and spreadsheets.
  • You want to choose a parsing tier per job to trade cost for quality.

The short version

From parsed output to rows your team can use.

01

Rows, not documents

LlamaParse outputs markdown, text, or JSON items, and LlamaExtract returns one JSON object per document following your schema. Loading that into tables is your code. PdfParse saves each document as a row and its line items as linked child rows, ready to query or export.

02

The workflow is included

Split (beta) and Classify are separate LlamaIndex API products, and we found no native email intake or review queue. PdfParse gives each workflow an inbox, splits packets, routes each part by plain-language rule, and holds uncertain ones for review.

03

One page, one price

LlamaIndex bills credits at $1.25 per 1,000, from 1 to 45 credits a page to parse and 6 to 60 to extract, with Split and Classify charged on top. PdfParse plans are a monthly page allowance with every workflow feature included.

04

Built for the whole team

LlamaExtract's web playground handles schemas and test runs, and its docs point to the SDK for production. PdfParse runs day to day from the dashboard, and developers get the REST API, TypeScript SDK, webhooks, and an MCP server.

Run both on the same PDFs first.

You don't have to migrate on faith. Use your free pages on the documents LlamaParse already handles and compare the rows.

  1. 01

Each property in your LlamaExtract schema becomes a column; arrays of line items become a linked table.

  2. 02

    Route the inputs

Point an inbox at the documents, or call the API with the files you send to LlamaParse today.

  3. 03

    Query instead of loading

Drop the step that loads JSON into a database. Query rows in PdfParse, or download the SQLite file.

PdfParse vs LlamaParse: common questions.

Is PdfParse a LlamaParse alternative?

For business documents that need to end up as rows, such as invoices, statements, and purchase orders, yes. If you need markdown for a RAG index, LlamaParse is built for that.

How does pricing compare?

LlamaExtract's Agentic tier is 25 credits a page, about $0.031 at $1.25 per 1,000 credits. PdfParse Pro is $79.99 for 3,000 pages, about $0.027 a page, and Enterprise is $129.99 for 10,000 pages, about $0.013, with the workflow included.
